Principles of nanoscale matrix additives for fibre composite

Project description:
In automotive and aerospace mobility, nanoparticles are becoming increasingly important in the form of homogeneously distributed fillers in nanocomposites. The excellent thermal and mechanical properties of the mostly ceramic nanoparticles can already be found in the nanocomposite with a small mass fraction. The resulting nanocomposite plastics have significantly better mechanical properties than pure polymer materials. In order to achieve this, material-specific optimization of the interacting particles is necessary, so that maximum utilization of this reinforcing effect is achieved. Modifications and functionalizations of the surface of the nanoparticles can lead to an improved linkage with the polymer matrix as well as a targeted change of the properties of the composite.

Within the framework of this project:

  • functionalization of the surfaces of particle systems in order to optimize the interaction of nanoparticles with their environment
  • the functionalized nanoparticles are dispersed in a polymer matrix to improve the mechanical properties of the composite material
  • the influence of relevant parameters on the resulting mechanical properties of the nanocomposite is determined.
